What suits youcomes down to shape and color.
Looking heavier, looking older — most of the time the cause is not your body but how you choose “shape” and “color.” YUKI, a stylist of 13 years based in Malaysia, explains it through body shape diagnosis and personal color.
What is your body shape type?
Body shape diagnosis sorts you into three types — Straight, Wave or Natural — by the frame, muscle and fat distribution you were born with, then points to the silhouettes that suit you.
This is a shape-only quick version: the three questions that decide the result most often in my fittings. If you are unsure, pick the answer that is closer. To find the colors that suit you too, continue to the 12-type diagnosis (5 minutes) after your result.

- 03Weight gainWhere it goes first. The 3 questions follow this order
Fig. 01Collarbone, volume, weight gain — the first three things I check
How does your collarbone look?
If you are out, a mirror or photo is fine: can you see your collarbone through your top?
Where does your body carry volume?
When you gain weight, where does it go first?

The 3 questions cover shape only. To find the colors that suit you, try the 12-type diagnosis (free, 5 minutes).
Which silhouettes suit your body shape?

Straight type
Upper-body volume and firm skin. High necklines and oversized fits make you look heavier; an I-line and a true-to-size fit fix it.

Wave type
Slim upper body, weight from the hips down. Heavy fabrics and low waists add years; a high waist and light fabrics fix it.

Natural type
Wrists, knees and joints stand out. Close-fitting clothes look bony; ease and natural fabrics make you look slimmer.

Yellow base or blue base: which colors brighten your skin?
Personal color sorts you into Yellow base (spring · autumn) or Blue base (summer · winter) by the color of your skin, hair and eyes, then picks the colors that light up your face. Changing just one color near your face changes how you look in photos — and first impressions.

Yellow base (spring · autumn)
Warm-toned skin: coral, camel, olive. Colors that keep your face from washing out even in strong tropical light.

Blue base (summer · winter)
Cool-toned skin: rose, navy, ice gray. Colors that stop you looking pale in an air-conditioned room.

How do you choose a clothing rental by body shape?
The one rule for renting without regret: does the service stock the silhouettes your body shape wears best? Check this before monthly fees or brand counts.
Here is what to look for, type by type — the standards I use myself, moving between 80% humidity outdoors and 22°C air-conditioning indoors.
| Body shape | What to check in the lineup | Practical in the tropics & air-conditioned offices | Avoid first | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight typeStraight | Whether I-line dresses and true-to-size jackets are always available. The number of V-necks is a good sign too. | Services with plenty of crisp cotton and rayon that hide sweat marks. Add one thin knit layer for the air-con. | Oversized fits, drapey fabrics, high necklines | Rentals for Straight |
| Wave typeWave | The share of high-waisted skirts and cropped tops, and plenty of soft blouses. | Light fabrics suit you, so choose a plan that always includes one layer. A light cardigan is a must at 22°C. | Heavy fabrics, low waists, long layers | Rentals for Wave |
| Natural typeNatural | Whether natural fabrics with ease are stocked — linen or linen-blend shirts, wide trousers. | The type that wears breathable natural fabrics best. Stays comfortable even in 80% humidity. | Close fits, shiny fabrics, tiny accessories | Rentals for Natural |

Thinking about “what suits you” in a country of 80% humidity.
YUKI / Professional stylist of 13 years / Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
As a professional stylist for 13 years, I have helped clients find what suits them through body shape and personal color. Living in Malaysia, moving between 80% humidity outdoors and 22°C air-conditioning indoors, I only write about clothes that truly work in tropical reality.
“Suiting you” is not a talent —
it is how you choose shape and color.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I do body shape diagnosis myself?
- Yes. The 3 questions above show which type you lean toward. If two or more of the three points — collarbone, body volume, weight gain — point to a different type, you may be a “mix”; the 12-type diagnosis, which adds color, will make it clearer.
- Is an online diagnosis enough?
- For choosing the shape of your clothes, yes. An in-person session is worth it when your frame spans two types and photos are hard to read, or when you want your exact personal color season.
- In year-round hot countries such as Malaysia, what should each body shape watch for?
- Fabric. Moving between 80% humidity outdoors and 22°C air-con indoors, Straight types start from crisp cotton or rayon that hides sweat marks, Wave types from light, thin fabrics plus one layer, Natural types from breathable linen and linen blends.
